Communication is an important aspect in life, it is how we, as humans, are able to move throughout our daily schedules through the exchange of information. Arguably, the largest proponent of communication comes from language. In such a large and globalized world, the English language is increasingly becoming more important. As we know it, some of the top influential global leaders include the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, all of which have declared English as their official language. To add to this list, many countries around the world speak English, including: Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, the Caribbean Islands, and even several countries in Africa have declared English as their de jure official language. From an economic perspective, English is a key feature to global trade and is practiced in many businesses around the world. Where trade is often debated as one of the most lucrative practices in any government, trade can also be considered important in the process of creating a more harmonious world. Where there is trade, there is common communication and where there is common communication, we often find the English Language. English as an international language contributes to globalization and opportunities that would otherwise be impossible without common communication, such as the ability to attend universities around the world or even the option of immigrating to a new country. Global development also plays a large role in pushing English to become a global language as tourism, airlines, and the media are found all around the world. Development is activated through human connections and learned ideas from others; English allows new ideas to be passed along. Media, such as movies and TV, along with social media, further pushes others to learn English, growing the English speaking community to even the most rural parts of the world, where there is internet access. Today, media is a large part of society, especially with younger generations growing up with consistently improving technology. With this accessibility, English can become an easy and useful resource. Practiced globally, English is often taught as a second language, or lingua franca, next to the common language spoken in-country. Much like in the United States, most everyone grows up speaking English, however, Spanish is often spoken in many parts of the country and is becoming increasingly taught in schools. This is how many schools around the world are becoming through teaching English, as a dual language. The opportunities earned through learning English is immense. This idea of a common language helps people become more unified to create a more inclusive world and may even push for more equality between people, as differences often cause misconceptions and misinterpretations- especially when there is no common denominator between people, such as English. Not only does English as a global language provide a fruitful international economy, bolster trade, better human inclusiveness, and provide opportunity, the English language is also important in government and world power. Proper communication is essential for world leaders and politicians as misconceptions can lead to war and loss of economy, which is where English becomes crucial in many debates and interactions between governments.
