I think by choosing what kind of methods to use greatly depends on the level or the students' English and the personalities of the students. I went to school in Italy, where students are very out going and not shy, but where I grew up in Hong Kong, students were not allowed to speak much in class. Our purpose is to be a good English teacher, therefore, I think it's the best to encourage students to speak out more and increase interaction. I do agree that role playing, story telling and playing communication games in the activate stage are good methods to bring out the interests of the students. I also think ESA is effective for new learners and new teachers alike. I think teachers should make correction and give feedback when necessary, but not too often to the extent that students will be shy to talk in class.
