Each unit has presented us with some edifying and useful information, thus we decided upon summarizing what we have gained and learnt from this course systematically, including how we intend to implement them:
Unit 1 – We have discovered what factors and attributes constitutes good teacher
s and students, and the inter-relationship between them. We shall adopt these elements into our teachings to be refined into good teacher
s and as a result, will subsequently help us to create and shape good students.
Unit 2 – This unit has helped us to effectively identify the different parts of speech, to understand their usages and how to accurately implement them in sentence constructions. This is the common english
grammar areas which we may be likely to encounter in our teaching career, thus having this in-depth knowledge will enable us to teach and explain materials to our students more effectively.
Unit 3 – This unit has taught us about the various lesson plan formats and what kinds of activities are involved within the different phases, together with many great and useful ideas that we can use. Depending on the situation, we can now select a lesson plan that is most suitable and effective.
Unit 4 – From this unit we have gained more thorough and detailed knowledge about the present tenses and their uses. We are now able to adequately impart this knowledge to a learner with clarity and precision.
Unit 5 – This unit has taught us the various strategies and techniques on how to manage and organize classes effectively. We intend to use these guidelines within our future classes, and hopefully through trial and error, we will develop the classroom management skills which work best for us and the students.
Unit 6 – This unit has provided us with greater in-depth knowledge of the past tenses together with appropriate teaching ideas, which we definitely will employ in our teaching.
Unit 7 – This unit has made us aware of the methods associated with language teaching. Knowing when to apply
the appropriate method will be an essential part of our development into an effective teacher
Unit 8 – From this unit we have provided us with a fuller understanding of the future tenses and complete our knowledge of the tense system. We can now competently present the tense system to our students with confidence and proficiency.
Unit 9 – This unit provided us with useful detailed insight into lesson planning. We now have a greater knowledge of how to delegate the lesson time efficiently to create a well-balanced lesson that will enhance students' learning and enjoyment.
Unit 10 – From watching the videos of the two lessons, we can identify and be aware of what makes a good teacher
and what makes a bad one. We now have a general idea of what to avoid and what to exercise in our teaching, to create a motivating and engaging lesson that is conducive to learning.
Units 11 & 12 – These two units have taught us about the various methods of teaching receptive and productive skills effectively. We have gained a greater understanding and appreciation of the importance of these skills, and are now able to incorporate these teaching methods into our lessons competently.
Unit 13 – This unit provided us with good understanding of phonics and pronunciations, and how they are of crucial importance in students' development of speaking the english
language more accurately. We are now capable of teaching these traits in detail and precision, something which we would have difficulty with previously.
Unit 14 – From this unit we have gained an insight into the advantages and disadvantages of course books, and how to make best use of them. It is very useful information for us to consider when selecting and designing materials in our own teaching.
Unit 15 – Regularly assessing students' language level and providing feedback are both compulsory and important for students to keep track of their progress. This unit has outlined this information and made us aware of it, something which we can now implement with good knowledge and understanding.
Unit 16 – This was a unit which we had some problems with getting the gist of, there was a slight confusion in regards to reported speech, but after some further study we have managed to rectify this. The unit has also presented us with many great teaching ideas, many of which will definitely be adopted in our future teachings.
Unit 17 – This unit provided us with more information about effective utilization of teaching equipment. But more importantly, has supplied us with extensive resource links, many of which would be of great assistance in our teaching.
Unit 18 – This unit has given us detailed understanding of the modal aux. verbs and the passive voice, with a good overview of phrasal verbs and relative clauses. We did encounter some difficulties with digesting all of the information thoroughly, but this has been overcome with some further intensive study. We can now confidently and efficiently present this information to our students with accuracy.
Unit 19 – This unit has made us aware of the different skills and psychology required to teach different learning groups. This information will be very useful for us to take into consideration and use as guidance when we encounter such situations in our future teaching career.
