Having completed the 20-unit tefl course gave me a complete and detailed idea about teaching english as a foreign language. It has been both a good revision of all different aspects of it (grammar, vocabulary, skills) and an effective add-on my previous knowledge. Although familiar with the language, I realized how different it feels when seen from the teacher's perspective. There were lots of times that my memories as a student helped me understand how difficult it is to lead a class and how hard time my class gave to the teachers we had along the way. I now feel more confident to combine these two perspectives and create interesting lessons for both me as a teacher and the students.
I'm planning to travel around the world and I can't wait to find a teaching opportunity in lots of different places, try different methods and get involved with the students' culture. Teaching people from different nationalities is one of the most interesting parts of this job and I cannot wait to get started!
Overall, I have to admit that although tiring sometimes, the course was very well planned and effective in terms of providing the essential lesson planning skills and building the confidence required before entering a class. I am grateful for the experience and cannot wait to apply lots of the ideas and techniques in a real lesson.
