Unit 11 was about teaching receptive skills. Receptive skills cover two of the four basic skills in any language: reading and listening. The other two are the productive skills and consist of speaking and writing. There is a major difference in merely reading or listening to material and encoding what one is reading or listening. This unit was of great interest to me because I am currently a tutor that specializes in cognitive skill development and the concept mentioned in the previous statement is one that I attempt to tackle daily.
