The past tenses are very similar to the present tenses in that each form follows a like structure. The past simple form contains (simply) the verb in the past tense conjugation. Past perfect uses the past simple form of the verb but adds the past tense form of 'be.' The past continuous changes the verb to show continuing action. This is done by adding '-ing' to the end of the verb and preceding the verb with the paste tense of 'have.' These changes relay the message to the reader or listener that the action occurred in the past (past tense of 'have') but is a continuous action (-'ing'). The final past tense is the past perfect continuous. This tense includes aspects of both past perfect and past continuous. Between the past tense form of 'have' and the continuous form of the main verb
