This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I have gained three major things from this course. The first is a greater level of understanding about the variety of needs that learners of english have. Although I have taught esl for five years, I have only ever been a ‘conversation teacher’, and have acquired scant knowledge of the other necessities of students. This course has opened my eyes to these requirements.
The second is a much more thorough grounding in the various aspects of english grammar. This is something that I would guess that most english speakers completely take for granted and give no thought to whatsoever; that was certainly the case for me. While I still feel far from confident in my grasp of the multitude of grammatical structures, I now have a much stronger base from which to work from.
And lastly it has been hugely beneficial to have repeated units focusing on lesson planning. The ESA structures are such a great way to approach classes, and I will be forever mindful of them in my weekly planning.
