The past tense in english generally helps us to describe actions and events that took place in the past. There are four forms of the past tense that we can use. The first is the past simple form. This form describes a completed action in the past. The letters "ed"" or ""d"" are added to a regular verb and there are also many irregular forms that must be remembered as there are no rules. The second form is the past continuous form. This form is much like the present continuous form except it describes an on-going action or even that takes place a a certain time in the past rather than the present.
