I have learned a lot about the english language – despite being a native speaker and having a BA in english – mainly in grammar and language constructs. This side of the language is not really taught to a huge degree in ireland – at most I can remember receiving a basic grounding in grammar in primary school! I have actually found that some of what I have learned could have been put to good use in writing essays for college but fortunately I have been able to help friends improve their essays with my newly acquired knowledge! I have also found myself using various teaching skills which I have picked up during the course, in my piano classes. My lessons, much to my student's delight, have become more varied and interesting and while I don't have any class groups anymore as I am only teaching privately at the moment, I have a much better grasp on how to keep larger groups interested. I intend to use the results of the course to try and get as much experience teaching english here in ireland as possible. I'm moving to Edinburgh in September so I am also hoping to find an opportunity while there to teach, but ultimately I'll be using what I have learned to travel and teach abroad. At the moment, South Korea is my main point of interest so I'm hoping a year or two in the future I might find a job and settle there for a few months before moving on and finding somewhere new!
