One of the important things I have gained from this course is how to carefully layout my lesson plans. I need to think simple, yet I have to consider a lot of factors to make my lesson plan effective. It has to be well thought of, such as considering which materials to use and how to maximize them during class. I have to visualize how it could turn out to be in the actual lesson. The activities should be realistic and applicable to the level of my students. I need to consider my students at all times because the class won’t exist without them. I need to consider: timing, right pace, quality and content of my lessons, my students’ interest, giving them the motivation they need, keeping my patience, being prepared for every lesson, to keep the lessons enjoyable and not straining, to prepare extra activities if there is still time left, to know as much as needed about each of my students, resources for my materials, creativity, acknowledging my students’ efforts, how to simplify my explanations, adjusting to my class and encouraging the students as they adapt to their class. Teaching requires a lot of understanding for the students. Insecurities, cultural differences, adaptability, speed of learning, individual strengths and weaknesses, different interests, barriers in communication, age and personality among others are factors to consider when handling a class especially one intended for a language course. Through this course, I have reviewed the parts of speech and the tenses. It has taught me to be careful with my work because this can affect my teaching or the actual output of my lesson plan. The course has made me realize that the teacher has to do his/her homework diligently just like the students. Teaching is not just about what I know, but how I can apply them for my personal growth and for the benefit of my students. I have to continuously research and update myself in order to improve my skills as a teacher. How I think will affect how I will teach, and how I teach will affect how my students will learn the lessons. We live in a dynamic and continuously evolving world because the teacher and the student both exist in each one of us.
