For me the tefl course was an interesting experience in the teaching world. Before joining the course I hadn’t had any teaching practice and would never imagine that today a lot of attention is drawn to the drilling exercises, especially the contracted forms. And it is nice to see that nowadays teachers pay more attention to develop speaking skills of their students, it is one of the priorities or must activities during a lesson. J. Harmer’s idea of ESA or patchwork lessons with activate stage, when real production of the language is required, is the best way for foreign students to acquire the language. When I was a pupil we spent a lot of time learning grammar and translating texts from english to Russian, but little time was spent on speaking activities. That is why people in Russia have a strong fear to start to speak in english; they lack confidence to produce the language. Another feature that I learned from the tefl course is not being afraid to change / adopt / create some tasks if the offered in a course book don’t suit the lesson. Before I thought that famous course books like Headway or Cutting Edge were perfectly constructed and the number of different exercises was well balanced. I’ll keep all the units and from time to time when I’m stuck to find a nice activity or face a problem in class management, I’ll go back and read the units again. I’m looking forward to start and face my own class.
