The parts of speech in a sentence can be very complex. Nouns can be people, places, things, qualities, states of being, and also states of action. There are different categories of nouns such as nouns that are common, proper, compound, abstract, collective, countable, and uncountable. Verbs, on the other hand, function to announce the action of a sentence's subject. Verbs can be either transitive or intransitive depending on the verb and the verb's usage in a sentence. There are also auxiliary verbs to help form different verb tenses that occur in English. However, the discussion on the difference between possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives was enlightening. I didn't realize that the masculine singular and the impersonal singular have the same form both as a possessive pronoun and as a possessive adjective.
