Grammar is often a thing that seemingly comes naturally to many people who have English as their first language, and I for one cannot remember learning it at school. It's therefore very useful to be able to see structures broken down and fully explained. If one picks apart a sentence, it becomes very obvious what each part does, and it is certainly very useful to explain it in this way. Taking it down to the easiest level becomes the most effective way of passing on what you know. Clearly there are many irregularities in English grammar, however having the basic knowledge of how to form a structure, and which words correspond with which others, is invaluable.
