In English, sentences are often formed using a subject, verb and object and words in sentences can be classified into parts of the speech.
A noun names people, animals, states, places things, etc. The main types of nouns are:
Common-no capital letters e.g. home, eagle
Proper-always have capital letters
Compound-joined to form a new noun
Abstract-something that is an idea but we cannot touch it e.g. beauty
Collective-groups of individuals
Plurals are usually created by adding an 's' at the end of the word e.g.dogs, or by adding an 'es' for words ending in 'x', 'ch' or 'sh' or 's', however there are exceptions to this rule, e.g. tooth-teeth, these exceptions will have to be memorized as there are no rules.
Countable nouns are things that can be counted e.g. people
Uncountable nouns cannot be counted e.g. music
Adjectives describe nouns such as people and places.
For comparing things we use comparative adjectives e.g. taller, smaller
There are two types of articles: definite (the) and indefinite (a, an)
A or an are used for nouns which are not defined
The is used for singular or plural nouns when they are specific.
Verbs are commonly known as "doing"" words
