The unit provided an overview of parts of speech most commonly used in the English language. I learned about the different classification of hours, including common, proper, compound, abstract, and collective. To describe nouns, adjectives are used. This unit presented the different forms adjectives appear in: comparative and superlative. I also learned about the two types of articles, which are definite articles and indefinite articles.
Additionally, this unit reminded me of that all verbs are either transitive or intransitive. Transitive verbs are classified as such because they are followed directly by an object; conversely, transitive verbs cannot be followed directly by an object. Also discussed were the auxiliary verbs: be, do, and have.
Finally, I learned about the proper usage of adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions, and conjunctions.
I will continue to refer to this chapter for reference throughout the remainder of the course.
