British English versus American English are often discussed during the class, students frequently ask which one is the standard English to learn and would it cause any difficulties in communication. Both of them have differences and similarities, but individuals from the UK and the US can communicate without too much difficulty.

Besides, there is no right or wrong when the differences appear, the British may consider American do not speak proper English and American might think British people are too formal and serious. However, from my perspective,... [Read more]

Drilling refers to the teaching method by which students repeat words or phrases that are said by the teacher. With this learning method, the teacher fulfills his or her role as a model by being the source of correct English pronunciation and vocabulary. Students are then prompted to emulate the words and phrases in a repetitive manner.

Teaching is not generally a lucrative profession, because in Africa we have strange financial priorities. But there are so many countries out there that make teaching quite a better living particularly teaching the English language as a foreign language. I don't think and neither do I believe that one can just wake up and call himself or herself into a particular field without training. Fully ingrained should one be, call himself or herself an English language teacher and this can not be achieved without education.

I will talk about managing young learners and about short and long term problem-solving methods.
The first possible reason may be the lack of experience. Experience comes with practice, and if you didn't practice many times you will probably face some management problems during your classes. When you decide to take a TEFL certification course with the intention of teaching English abroad, in your home country, or online, it is difficult to know who you will actually end up teaching. Once you have finished your training you could end up teaching primary aged children, teenagers, or adults. They could be from any country worldwide and they could be at any level of English language from beginner to advanced level. In many ways it is a bit of a lottery, so you should ensure you are ready to deal with all types of environments. After a while most teachers develop a preference for the type of student they prefer to teach, however, the beginner EFL student is often the most feared.
So what actually defines a... [Read more]

The role of the teacher can be divided an analyzed in two different ways;
One is the education and knowledge, (part 1) Second is the personality and communication abilities, (part 2)
Part one is a general precondition for every candidate, but part two is indispensable, especially in primary education.
We mostly hear such sayings:
“A good teacher is a good student at the same time.”
“If you are a good student, then most probably you can be a good teacher.”

At ITTT we do require you to be at least 18 years old to enroll on our courses but there are certainly no upper age limits. Over the years we have successfully trained people of all ages, many of whom have gone on to have successful careers as English language teachers. As long as you are a native or near-native English speaker who is keen to learn new skills and is open to new ideas, then your age should be no barrier to your success. Although a large number of new TEFL graduates are in their 20s, it doesn't mean they are always the most sought after by employers. One of the fulfilling thoughts on teaching English as a foreign language is that generally, the students are very self-motivated as most of the students have taken up learning English as a second or foreign language due to personal requirements; either they need to up-skill themselves for work opportunities or a possible relocation to an English speaking country, or possibly purely for personal fulfillment. Whatever the reason, the students will be eager and self-motivated to learn. The students understand the purpose of their work and have a sense of responsibility for their learning and achievement. Classroom management refers to how things are generally carried out in the classroom. It deals with ways on how things are supposed to be done. This includes procedures and routines among others. New teachers, however, tend to mistake classroom management and classroom discipline. Whereas classroom management is as stated above, classroom discipline is the specific management of students’ behavior. By definitions alone, we can respectively differentiate the two as being the building blocks of any successful lesson and the reactive actions we take to maintain the rules that had been set through known procedures and routines.

Confidence and charisma are two central qualities for a teacher to possess, especially when it comes to teaching young learners. A teacher spends several hours a day being the center of attention in front of the same groups of kids. If their confidence is lacking, the students will be quick to notice, which will negatively impact the effectiveness of one’s teaching as well as a discipline within the classroom. It’s great when someone congratulates you and gives you a quick confidence boost, but as a teacher, it’s your job to do that for your students, not the other way around. As a teacher, it is essential to ensure that all students feel inclusive when in the classroom. If a student feels like they are not learning, or feel like they are not part of the class, they are more likely to not take part, which in turn, slows down the rate in which that student can achieve the objectives of the class.
