I believe discipline in the classroom has a time and place. Depending on the age group or behavior of the classroom will define if discipline is needed. When discipline is simple, the teacher must ask themselves one question, is it disrupting the student's time to learn? If the answer to that question is a yes then action must be taken at that point. As a future teacher, I think the best way to make it clear to the student that bad behavior will not be tolerated is by implementing a three-strike system: the first strike is a warning, the second strike is detention and a paper assigned to the student asking them to write what mistake they made and how they will improve in the future, the third strike is being sent... The teacher across the ages can be assessed in different ways, but in general, the teacher still plays an important role in education. They not only impart knowledge to students but also play many other roles such as; organizer, who guide many educational activities for students, create a friendly learning environment and problematic situations that encourage students to actively participate in learning activities. They are also friend, sharer, leader, and inspirer, observer, people involved in the activity, reminder, reviewer.

Since my childhood, I have been frequently asked the same question "what kind of teacher do you want?" At different life stages, I have different answers. When I was a kid, I would say a teacher who dresses neatly and smiles nicely; when I was a teenager, I would prefer a "cool" teacher as a good teacher, who behaves differently from other boring and stereotyping adults; until I grow up, I think a good teacher should have sound subject knowledge, be fair and consistent with all of the students as well as being sensitive to the students’ reactions and providing necessary support, and until now I know being a good teacher has nothing to do with his/her appearances and dressings.

Lesson planning is important because it gives the teacher a solid direction of what he/she wants to teach for the day. Proper classroom planning will keep you organized and on track while teaching, allowing you to teach more and manage less. Further to this classroom planning also forms an important part of educating and performance management. It is important for classroom planning to have set rules and consequences as this will help the students to stay focused on the lesson. As a new teacher, you must be committed to spending the necessary time on lesson planning. It is also important to realize that the best-planned lesson is worthless if interesting delivery procedures, along with good classroom management... [Read more]

Punishment is used in the classroom as a means from the teacher to gain control. It can work but the teacher has a huge responsibility in the way she executes punishment. Reinforcing good behavior should be the primary strategy in a classroom but if punishment is necessary, then the teacher needs to consider a few crucial elements to punishment. It is important to teach students alternative behavior instead of what the student is doing at the moment. The teacher should be clear about what she expects from the student or the student won’t change his behavior and will also be confused about the appropriate behavior. It is also common practice for a teacher to threaten to punish the whole class for the bad behavior... [Read more]

One of the most important aspects of becoming a great teacher is establishing a positive rapport with students. Even with all the technical knowledge of teaching theory in the world, a class will not be successful without creating beneficial bonds between the teacher and pupils. With a tactful and thoughtful approach to building a deep rapport with the students, these bonds can establish a learning environment in which the students and teachers can thrive.

A consideration for the categorization of your language learners is actually their language level.
So within any class the language level the students should all have, (assuming that your class is not a mixed ability class) is usually at one particular level.
Typically your students will have had some form of level test to put them into one of the levels and in ESL teaching there are often five different levels of grouping described.
Level one, the most basic level is called Starter. Moving on from that the Elementary level, the next one beyond that is level three, called the Pre-Intermediate level and then on to the Intermediate level and finally level five, which is called the... [Read more]

David Brooks once said, “The point of being a teacher is to do more than impart facts, it's to shape the way students perceive the world, to help a student absorb the rules of discipline. The teachers who do that get remembered.” In my experience as a teacher, I have had students from different backgrounds enter my classroom. I have come to acknowledge that each one is an individual who has needs and a personality shaped by external factors such as their family life, social interactions, and beliefs. Nevertheless, I have also discovered that positive discipline in the classroom creates a healthy environment which not only promotes learning but gives each student an equal opportunity to be challenged and excel.... Businesses now communicate across borders effortlessly and friends can stay connected using technology no matter where they are on the planet. Although major languages around the world remain important to local cultures, the need for a common global language has risen due to the connection of all continents via technology. English naturally emerged as a global language to fill this void, largely because it is spoken as the native language of the United States of America, which has a very expansive economy.
