The teacher across the ages can be assessed in different ways, but in general, the teacher still plays an important role in education. They not only impart knowledge to students but also play many other roles such as; organizer, who guide many educational activities for students, create a friendly learning environment and problematic situations that encourage students to actively participate in learning activities. Teaching is considered an activity of imparting knowledge, skills, attitude, and value from one person to another. The one who is more knowledgeable and skilled and imparts the knowledge, skills, philosophy, and value is the teacher, while the other person who receives the knowledge, skills, philosophy, and value is the learner. I believe discipline in the classroom has a time and place. Depending on the age group or behavior of the classroom will define if discipline is needed. When discipline is simple, the teacher must ask themselves one question, is it disrupting the student's time to learn? If the answer to that question is a yes then action must be taken at that point. As a future teacher, I think the best way to make it clear to the student that bad behavior will not be tolerated is by implementing a three-strike system: the first strike is a warning, the second strike is detention and a paper assigned to the student asking them to write what mistake they made and how they will improve in the future, the third strike is being sent... Since my childhood, I have been frequently asked the same question "what kind of teacher do you want?" At different life stages, I have different answers. When I was a kid, I would say a teacher who dresses neatly and smiles nicely; when I was a teenager, I would prefer a "cool" teacher as a good teacher, who behaves differently from other boring and stereotyping adults; until I grow up, I think a good teacher should have sound subject knowledge, be fair and consistent with all of the students as well as being sensitive to the students’ reactions and providing necessary support, and until now I know being a good teacher has nothing to do with his/her appearances and dressings.

Lesson planning is important because it gives the teacher a solid direction of what he/she wants to teach for the day. Proper classroom planning will keep you organized and on track while teaching, allowing you to teach more and manage less. Further to this classroom planning also forms an important part of educating and performance management. It is important for classroom planning to have set rules and consequences as this will help the students to stay focused on the lesson. Kindergarten students are those who are typically around the age of five. From birth till five, they would have developed their sensory and speaking abilities in their mother tongue with decent fluency. Children at this age have a strong potential to gain a lot of information. They would know about 1000-2000 words by this time. At this age, they are formally introduced to reading and writing skills, group work, independent thinking, and sharing practice. Teaching children at this age can be quite challenging and fun. Vocabulary is one of the strongest predictors when it comes to speaking capacity. So, by carefully incorporating study into play we can enrich their speaking abilities.

Punishment is used in the classroom as a means from the teacher to gain control. It can work but the teacher has a huge responsibility in the way she executes punishment. Reinforcing good behavior should be the primary strategy in a classroom but if punishment is necessary, then the teacher needs to consider a few crucial elements to punishment. It is important to teach students alternative behavior instead of what the student is doing at the moment. The teacher should be clear about what she expects from the student or the student won’t change his behavior and will also be confused about the appropriate behavior. It is also common practice for a teacher to threaten to punish the whole class for the bad behavior... [Read more]

Education starts at home. A child does not start and stop learning in school. They will always learn whether it is at home, in school, with friends or even other influences such as the internet. Therefore, a child’s very first teacher or role model is their parents. Parent’s engagement in a child’s learning process is very crucial in shaping their character. Parents should not only rely on the child’s school in education. Having both the parents and school teachers working hand in hand is one of the best combinations in getting the child to be interested in learning and to become a better person in the future.
