At this stage, I can certainly affirm that this course has almost "reformed" my teaching methods, and my conception of what teaching is all about. In fact, it has taught me that teaching wasn't just a matter of transferring information from teacher to student(s); although the teacher plays an important role in the classroom and helps students achieve learning, I'm aware that classes should be student-centered rather than teacher-centered. That's why I now favor student talking time (in english, of course!) during my lessons, and I care to cater for my students' needs and objectives (i.e. what they need to learn) rather than merely implementing the course book contents. I didn't really use to plan my lessons as I'd mostly abide by the lessons and activities in the course book; now, I am encouraged to be creative and design my own exercises, to add extra activities or tasks from other books, or to replace/supplement the ones in the course book according to my students' needs. This leads me to say that I've benefited a lot from learning about the ESA method; after implementing it in my own classes, I found it very efficient to teach a foreign language to students of all levels. I now realize that with a bit of planning, lessons could be structured in a logical way, making teaching easier and a lot more fun!
