Classroom management is a teacher’s ability to organise and control a classroom. It is very important that the teacher establishes a good relationship to gain the students trust as this will create a sense of respect in the classroom. Respect between the teacher and the students’ is a necessary factor so that the students obey the rules/regulations of both the teacher and the school. Classroom management also involves interaction with the students to make them feel part of the class. It is the teacher’s responsibility to encourage the students to participate in all activities. Keeping good eye contact and using the right gestures is very important to create a good rapport. The teacher’s voice helps also to control the classroom environment. A clear voice will hold students attention and get them involved in the classroom activities. Obviously the voice should change according to the circumstances (whether teaching a class or individual tutoring). Addressing the students by their names keeps them attentive and on their toes. It will also help to keep the classroom controlled and interested in the matter being discussed. Building rapport is the most important thing in a classroom. This motivates and inspires the students and will lead to creativity and makes learning enjoyable. There are many techniques and strategies for good classroom management. Overall this skill has to be learned through experiences in the classroom. Each classroom has a different dynamic of students and levels therefore one requires different actions to be taken to control the classroom environment. Establishing a relationship with the students and developing a sense of trust and comfort in the classroom will help to create an efficient and effective classroom environment.
