I’ve learned a great deal from this course. Teaching english as a foreign language is not just about plopping into the class a native speaker. There is skill involved, and tactic, and strategy. This course has helped me to realize the breadth of the position of efl teacher. I’ve learned some basics about the nuances of the english language, and I hope to use this to field some of the more difficult questions higher level students may have. As well, I really liked gaining insight into how to correct students the proper way. This I hope to use every day in my classes. Next, I enjoyed the practice at making lesson plans. I experienced, while taking the course, an increased comfort level with lesson planning, and the ESA format is very valuable. I hope to use it as the foundation for all of my classes. There are many other things I personally got out of this course, including ideas for teaching young learners (games, ice breakers, etc.) and how to gauge student english levels through needs analysis. Overall, it has been a very rewarding experience.
