I have gained a great deal from taking part in this course academically myself and learning from a teachers perspective. Even though I am a native english speaker and I did well in english at school, I have found this course challenging and I have learnt a lot; whether it be new content that I have never been taught previously or content that I had forgotten and have now been reminded of. I have learnt a lot in terms of practical skills that I can use as a teacher and how to handle classes and deal/communicate with students whether they be younger or more mature. My personal thoughts are that this course is structured in a way that is easy to follow and it covers a broad array of topics giving me the confidence to be able to get straight into it and jump into a classroom to teach students english. I am currently on my OE and have been travelling for 3 months and have just settled in the Netherlands for the time being; a new culture and language to learn! I may use my certificate to teach english in the Netherlands otherwise I plan to use it when we eventually travel through Asia and/or when I return home to New Zealand as an extra job. I like the ide of teaching english to non-english speaking people because you get to experience a piece of their culture whilst also gaining the satisfaction that they are learning as a result of what you are teaching them.
