I have learned that a lot of attention needs to be paid for the tenses relating to direct and reported speech. This will definitely be a lesson that takes time to go over. One small word truly does change the entire meaning of what's being said or reported. The conditionals are very similar and it took a couple of times of reading and rereading them to be able to separate them.
