TEFL Courses in Zhuhai | China

The huge popularity of tefl in China means that Zhuhai has become a very popular city in which to gain a tefl teaching certificate. The city is relatively new and affords visitors a view into modern Chinese culture, its diversity and history. Taking a course here truly represents a unique opportunity to experience the real side of China.

Centrally located, Zhuhai is only 70 miles away from Guangzhou, 36 miles away from Hong Kong and Macao sits on Zhuhai’s southern border. The city is situated in an outstanding location with great scenery, a clean environment and a rather welcoming coastline. These are just some of the great reasons why our trainees give it such high praise.

Zhuhai is a seaside resort city where flowers bloom year round. Its natural environment and attractive landscapes are complimented by good urban planning and very hospitable locals.

In 1999, Zhuhai was the only city in China to be awarded the “Best Practices Living Environment” by the United Nations Center for Human Settlement. In addition to this, it’s also won many other awards for advanced environmental policies as well as overall cleanliness.

Zhuhai has also been named the “City of 100 Islands” due to the 146 islands that lay off its coast. The islands are both large and small and offer visitors a virtual treasure-trove of activities

Nearby the training center are other attractions as well. You can visit a local tea factory and get to know the hometown of Sun Yat Sen, see the New Yuanming Palace, tour Macao, or ride the Shining Shan Cableway.

The School

Our TEFL training course in Zhuhai offers a wonderful chance for gradual immersion into Chinese life and culture. Zhuhai is Hong Kong’s neighbor but the cost of living in Zhuhai is nearly half that of Hong Kong’s. This means getaways to the dynamic neighborhoods of Hong Kong are incredibly easy and you’ll save money by staying in Zhuhai.

With the help of our experienced training staff, you’ll deliver lessons to real EFL students who do not speak English as their native language. Students are enthusiastic and come to class voluntarily, so you’ll have a friendly and supportive environment in which to learn the skills needed to become an effective teacher.

The center is very modern, fully equipped and offers spacious classrooms. All materials, resources and services needed to successfully complete the course will be provided at no additional charge.

Complimentary snacks will be provided and other cheap treats will be sold on campus. Local shops and a large supermarket are located nearby.

As an additional option, we’ll provide three meals a day to those who volunteer for our Discussion Corner sessions. During these sessions, you would lead a group of local adult students in various conversations about a variety of topics. This is voluntary and by no means compulsory.

Expand thin line on white background

Normally all the classes are scheduled from 8:50 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. during weekdays, however, we do observe the many Chinese national holidays, which means we sometimes have to work over the weekend to make up for these days off. Trainees will be scheduled for observed teaching practice on or off site depending on students’ circumstances. Chinese students are usually very well behaved in the classroom and are interested and excited about learning English with a foreigner. Class sizes range from 10 to 25. Trainees will teach lessons of 30 to 50 minutes according to the student’s timetable.

  • What can I expect during teaching practice?

Expand thin line on white background

We offer English classes for Chinese students who are interested in improving their English language abilities. Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.

  • Who usually attends the course?

Expand thin line on white background

We average groups of six to ten trainees. Most of the participants are American, British, Canadian or Australian, although we do accept non-native speakers of English who have a high proficiency in the language.

  • Is there a dress code?

Expand thin line on white background

For all input and tutorial sessions at the training location, there is only one specific dress requirement: Both men and women should have a shirt covering their shoulders. The course operates from within a school so we ask you to be mindful of this, as well as being mindful of your peers and to respect the fact that you are a visitor in another country.

During teaching practice there are specific requirements that adhere to the local dress code. All trainees are expected to dress professionally according to the following guidelines:

Women: Shoulders should be covered, blouses with sleeves are suggested. No low-cut necklines, very short skirts or bare midriffs. Open-toed shoes are acceptable, but not hiking or flip-flop sandals.

Men: Long pants, slacks or trousers are required, jeans are not acceptable. Short or long-sleeved shirts with a collar are necessary, although a tie is not required. Loafers or dress shoes are both fine, sandals are not acceptable. Long hair should always be tied back.

  • What should I bring for course studies?
