Let me begin by saying I have a Bachelors's degree in broadcast journalism, and a minor in English and just a bit of teaching experience. In fact, when I was in college, I loved the English language classes so much I took every one of them that the University offered. So, I thought going through the online courses would be nothing new and I could definitely handle teaching English online as a second language. Well, I was wrong! I very quickly realized that there was so much more for me to learn and absorb. In fact, I couldn’t believe just how much more these courses would teach me!

With the rapid growth of technology, we can immediately see how it's affecting not only the world as we know it and how we interact with it. We also become aware of how it changes the way we teach language. In this essay, we will discuss how the change of technology has influenced our teaching process and also how it can be used to our benefit to make grammar learning an exciting process for students.

Every teacher wants to be good and effective when it comes to teaching, but what exactly are the qualities that make a good teacher? Are there specific characteristics, talents, and skills that a teacher needs to learn and acquire to be called a good and effective teacher?

Effectiveness in teaching is an elusive idea. How can we tell if a teacher is being successful in his or her field? Some people measure the effectiveness of a teacher by looking at his or her students’ achievements. Others measure it by the ratings their supervisors give. Do we... [Read more]

There's no doubt that the quality of the educational process significantly depends on the teacher. And therefore the teacher plays the leading role here.

There are many of them. First of all, in my opinion, it's the personality of a teacher that has the main impact on the way he/she leads the educational process. Such personal traits as confidence and self-perception, emotional control, creativity, сommitment, and determination make a good teacher in the first place. A teacher can have good theoretical knowledge about teaching, have a great variety of... [Read more]

It was the last day of Japanese class and my teacher’s last day of teaching at our school. We were all standing up getting ready to bow him one last time. It was dead quiet but I could still hear sniffles around me and felt the sadness of the moment. I never thought I would care so much about a teacher leaving. To this day, the words and wisdom my Japanese teacher taught me still ring in my head. Flash forward to a few years ago, I went to Japan for the first time, after a hiatus of not studying Japanese, but amazingly I still had all the skills my teacher had taught me in high school. How did this person have such an impact on me? The answer I have come to realize is that because he truly cared about me becoming... [Read more]

Being a teacher is more than teaching the subject matter that you are paid to deliver. We have a lot of impact on the kids that enter through our classroom doors and reside in our halls. Teaching is made easier when a teacher forms a strong connection with her students. Now, a teacher will not connect with every one of her students- some students just do not care about school, do not care about teachers, or simply like other classes better. However, making those connections with specific students will help you as a teacher have a better classroom and strengthen relationships with the rest of your class.
You're spending most of your time with your students inside the classroom.... [Read more]

As we all know English has become a global language that is fast rising and also language shapes our thinking, reasoning and the way we behave in society, this has been proven by scholars in America and other parts of the world. The way a French thing or dresses is different from an English person, as a result, statistics show that the English world or society is far better. English certificates are world-recognized qualifications, as a result, a student that studies in an English system is of better chances to secure a good job anywhere in the world than a qualification from other parts of the world.

Teachers are arguably one of the most important figures in society. They are the people that shape and influence society. Teachers have been around since the beginning of time. Some remarkable teachers, such as Jesus and Buddha, continue to leave their influence on society today. Many great teachers have similar qualities. It doesn’t matter where they came from. What made them great was that they had a passion for what they taught, led by example, and had a sincere desire to make a difference. In my opinion, the role of a teacher is to have these three qualities and the rest will follow.

What if I told you it is totally possible to combine your passion with your dream?
Well, it is.

Teaching English for many presents the opportunity needed to become an expat. To live the expat life. This was certainly the case for me. When I accepted a volunteer position as an English Teacher in Chile four years ago, it wasn’t (initially) to accomplish my life long goal of becoming an English teacher. I might not have realized it before since I was busy studying and just trying to achieve my short term goals but I believe that my mother has been an inspiration for me to become a teacher. I could remember seeing kids at home being taught by my mom and she used pictures to identify certain shapes and animals. My mom was a regular housewife then. She taught only for fun and to make my brother and I be more engaged in learning things with the company of our friends, our playmates.

I believe discipline in the classroom has a time and place. Depending on the age group or behavior of the classroom will define if discipline is needed. When discipline is simple, the teacher must ask themselves one question, is it disrupting the student's time to learn? If the answer to that question is a yes then action must be taken at that point. As a future teacher, I think the best way to make it clear to the student that bad behavior will not be tolerated is by implementing a three-strike system: the first strike is a warning, the second strike is detention and a paper assigned to the student asking them to write what mistake they made and how they will improve in the future, the third strike is being sent... In the classroom, a teacher's dedication, confidence, and eagerness are often contagious, and the same is true with the lack of these things. As a Spaniard in love with languages, I can’t start this essay without saying anything other than, "it’s not who the teacher is, but the will of teaching that they have". Through all these years of learning English, I just know for sure that a learner learns more when they live in and with the language throughout each day. They need to become hooked to it, and it does not matter if the person who transmits this feeling is a native speaker or not.
