⏩ Tefl reviews - Borrow Vs Lend English Grammar Teaching Tips - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT
In this video Linda discusses the difference between two words that are often confused: "borrow" and "lend". Because the two words have similar meanings it makes it hard to identify the correct word, especially for non-native speakers. The difference is solely down to perspective. "Borrow" is a verb that means to receive something from someone with the expectation that you will return it to them. While "lend" is also a verb, it means to give something to someone with the expectation that they will give it back to you. Therefore, you need to make sure you use the right word depending on the perspective.

In general, my experience with this online TEFL course was highly positive and worth both my time and money. Generally, I felt like the entire course was relatively straightforward in the design and layout. The individual content for each unit, how each unit is placed about each other, and the content of each test was mostly easy to understand and felt very relevant to what I imagine I might expect when teaching English abroad. Of course, as I have not taught English before, I feel the knowledge I gained from this course will prove useful for most situations I may come across.

What type of a TEFL teacher do I want to be? I have learned from Unit 19 Teaching Special Groups there are different types of classes. They are Teaching Beginners, Teaching Individual Students, Teaching Children, Business English / English for Specific Purposes (ESP), and Monolingual and the Multilingual Class. Many to choose from and I hope during my teaching career I will be exposed to all of them. But, if I had my choice I would pick Business.
In this essay, I will define what is Business English, describe the types of clients and their needs, program planning, and things to consider. My essay will be primarily based on what I learned in Unit 19 and from internet research. A lot of what I will be writing... [Read more]
⏩ Tefl reviews - Overview Of All English Tenses Present Tenses Present Simple Teaching Ideas - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT
Here's a teaching idea that focuses on two very specific aspects of the present simple tense, one of which will be making statements about a habit and a routine. The other will be conjugating the verb into the 'he', 'she' or 'it' form. Here we'll present students with a picture. They will see various objects in the picture. Based upon the presence of these objects in someone's room, the students will have to make an observation such as 'She drinks coffee,' 'She plays the guitar,' 'She watches television,' 'She doesn't smoke.' Again, it's very specific used for the 'he', 'she' or 'it' form and habits and routines. At the end of the activity, the teacher will have the pairs or the small groups report back their various findings. Another idea for the present simple tense will be the... [Read more]

If you're a native language speaker, you've likely heard the phrase, “You can't teach an old dog new tricks”. There has been little evidence found to support this claim, but the belief persists. Many adult learners believe that it is too late for them to learn a new language. If you are teaching English as a Foreign or Second Language you may find yourself teaching a class of adult learners. Adult learners differ in many ways from young learners, and one such issue you may encounter is a doubt from the learners that they are capable of picking up a new language now that they are no longer children. Though the style of learning and the issues encountered will inevitably differ from those of young learners,... [Read more]

For this assignment, I decided to research problems experienced by Colombian students learning English. I will be teaching English in Colombia and thought this subject would benefit me. My findings more generally reflect the difficulties of Spanish-speaking learners. The paper outlines the top ten difficulties for Spanish-speakers learning English (vocabulary, spelling/pronunciation, subject-verb-agreement, verb tense, dialects, subject omission, pronunciation, stress, slang, and literal translations) based on CCJK (2019). Where possible I relate this information to my experiences/examples and units in the TEFL course.

Say the word ‘hat’ to yourself out loud. Now say ‘mouth’. Was it easy? If you are a native English speaker you did it without thinking. You didn’t have to contort your face into all sorts of funny shapes or feel self-conscience during the process. The reason is that you already know the phonology of those two English words. You may not understand exactly how you said those words; whether they were plosives or voiced or non-voiced, whether or not the tongue was forward touching the teeth or raised touching the soft palate. You don’t need to know. You have heard and said these words hundreds if not thousands of times in your life. You already can say them easily without thinking. But what if you are... [Read more]

A gifted American educator has said, ‘motivation is the key to turn hopeless, hostile students into eager and ambitious achievers. It is useless to teach when students are not motivated. One can only have the information processed and digested in a stand of filtered out when their mind is open when they believe in themselves that they can do it. And if the ways of motivation are rightly chosen, if it’s carried out by a driving, dedicated and patient teacher, gradually, and often quite swiftly, the gap in-betweens will be filled, and the learning begins.

With the TEFL course, you can focus on your areas of weakness which are a good plus point. One of the most important things to consider when teaching business English is what your students want out of the English lesson. When you talk about business English you aren’t talking about teaching adults versus teaching children, these are business professionals that often work in international trade where English is the language of business. You’re unlikely to go over the names of utensils in English in a business English class unless the students you’re working with are looking to open a restaurant, and even then being able to coherently discuss how much it costs to open a restaurant and the operating costs of a restaurant are more important than them knowing how to correctly pronounce knife. Given this background, I can speak from a wealth of personal experience to the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of each. I have taught English before in an English tutoring institute in Korea on two separate occasions. I am American but I grew up in South Korea. For extra money, I started teaching English for the first time at age 19. I taught very young children, from age 4 to age 7. It was extremely difficult because there were probably about 20 students and at those ages’ children have such different mental capacities. Therefore, teaching was almost impossible as the older children picked up everything very quickly and would become bored and loud, while the younger children would be too scared to talk and practice anything. It felt much more like a daycare than any English class.
