I have personally gained a lot of insight from this course. Even though I am experienced and studied education, some of the ideologies from the readings have put things in perspective that I really never thought about. As I'm still developing as a teacher, one of the things I have learned is receptive and productive skills. This unit really helped me to see the nature of growth between student and teacher. My main duty as a teacher has been teaching conversation and less about grammar, and reading. So, the grammar units have been particularly helpful along with the suggested activities. The most important concept that I gained from this course has been the methodology of teaching. I learned about the straight arrow approach, boomerang approach and also the patchwork approach. These three teaching methodologies will carry me a long way when I work with a diverse group of students. When I apply for another job, I will definitely apply most of the strategies that were mentioned from this course. When I work with the adult students, I plan to use more authentic materials and structure the class more meticulously (grammar and vocabulary) to generate interests as a whole. Furthermore, I plan to group my students according the questionnaire analysis results. Overall, I gained a perceptive that even experienced teachers can still learn so much.
