In this unit I learned the importance of phonology and pronunciation. It was fun and also difficult to practice all the phonetic exercises and look at words in their phonetic forms. At first it was like looking at alien text but then it all seemed to make sense. I can understand why foreigners have such a difficult time with english if not taught the proper stress and phonetic alphabet. I am learning spanish and often have a hard time pronouncing words properly. This makes it difficult as even slight changes in a words pronunciation causes it to have an entirely different meaning. I can see why a phonetic chart in a classroom is an absolute must.
