This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
First, I feel I have truly learned english grammar – the same grammar questions that I have had when learning a foreign language. Even though I studied english grammar throughout my school years, I didn't retain a lot of the information and this course solidified many of my weak points. I hope that this renewed knowledge of english grammar can make me a more effective teacher of esl students-that english grammar can become an agent for them to be more confident about speaking. I plan to continue to study english grammar personally.
Second, I have not had any experience teaching english in a classroom setting (I have only tutored english one-to-one) so this has taught me so much about what to expect when I do teach in a classroom. Also, I have been introduced to so many resources that will aid in my teaching and lesson planning.
As for lesson planning, I have seen my own development and improvement in this area since taking the course. I feel much more confident in planning an engaging, exciting and effective lesson. The lesson plan form has helped me to organize my thoughts and I plan to continue to use it.
