I have learned so many things from this course, I don’t know where to begin. Even though I am an American, I had no idea how to ‘teach’ my own language before I took this course. I have been living here in italy for almost 4 years now and I was offered many times, different jobs by different people who wanted to learn the english language. I started doing private lessons with some of my friends just to try it out and see what I thought. After 2 weeks of complete stress and clueless as what to do for the next lesson, I had to tell them to wait for any further lessons. I didn’t have the confidence to teach. I had no structure nor did I have any knowledge of what I needed to teach them about. This course has taught me which level of students are out there, how to find their level, what and how to teach grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, business, all the materials that are involved in each lesson, where to find ideas and materials online, classroom management etc….. I now have the confidence and knowledge to go out on my own and teach the english language the correct way and with correct structure. Before I was terrified to even start a lesson and now I can’t wait till I have another one. Soon after I started this course I was contacted by an American who runs her own language school here in italy. She offered me the job once I completed this course so Now that I am doing the final unit I can’t wait to start working with her and her program. I am going to sit in on one of her lessons tomorrow night. I feel so great that I have accomplished this course and it opens a whole new door with my experience of being here in italy. I can’t wait to start teaching and see the progress with each of my students and know that they are able to speak english because of me and by me completing this course. I think it is such a great course that covers many of the difficult sections of not only teaching but also teaching a second language to others.
