Be it for promotion, or self development, to competing for positions, or to keep ones position in an advancing field, to necessitation by governing bodies, there are many requirements and options to further oneself in this career. As such, by pursuing a career in teaching in my country one would have to do a 2 year graduate course at University, which is approved by the Ministry of Education. These qualifications are also recognized regionally by english speaking CARICOM Nations. As per this example, the governing body makes a requirement which affects the salaried position of a teacher. When attempting to have a career outside of one's native land, international requirements become more formal and intensive. There is often competition for work, so teachers arm themselves, where they can, with qualifications to edge out the competition. Another reason for having a career development plan is to personally improve as a subject teacher. To be an effective teacher one must evaluate ones methods and performance and thus the performance of your students. Being knowledgeable about a subject does not automatically make one efficient as a teacher of said subject, in this case the english language. The career of being a teacher is one of dedication, practice and results. In order for the human race to have progressed in the myriad avenues that enable modern existence, the ability of a teacher to successfully impart a certain degree of a particular knowledge to their charges throughout the ages has been imperative. Also, in order to keep teachers current in the methodology practiced by the general consensus or governing body associated (government, state board, school board etc.) certain courses or evaluation programs have been and continue to be necessitated. In particular, a course such as this one is required by many private institutions for international teachers. However, as a course it is helpful to teachers who want to reevaluate their fluency in teaching english altogether. It rightfully discusses various issues pertaining to grammar that most native speakers with degrees in english related subjects, such as literature, would not necessarily have had at the forefront of their personal repertoire. These much needed recaps help prepare teachers for their roles as gatekeepers of knowledge to students who otherwise would be unprepared to handle whatever came their way.
