I have gained confidence in being able to effectively teach lessons on english grammar. Being a native english speaker, usages and formations of tenses and verbs have always come naturally and unconsciously. This course forced me to not only formally learn them, but also think about how I can and will teach it to others. Confidence in subject matter is huge when walking into a classroom because you don’t want your students to doubt your knowledge.
This course has also taught me to think how I could adapt plans, lessons and expectations for different ages, numbers and needs. Having a fairly limited background in Primary and Secondary schools, I have never had to think about how adults learn and are motivated differently. Obviously a lesson that will work well with 30 ten year olds won’t translate to a class of 5 adults.
I have previously taught french as an additional language and wish I had taken this before beforehand because I have learned and thought of lots of new ideas for engage and activate activities. Many of the ideas are applicable across teaching all languages and I will take them with me teaching english, french as well as science, which is my main teachable area.
