At the start of the unit the characteristics that a good teacher should possess are discussed. Is I believe being able to motivate the students and having a good level of rapport with the children are the most important of these characteristics because engaging and motivating students is central to facilitating the learning process. The teacher can try all he/she wants but unmotivated and disengaged students will ultimately not be in the right mind-set to learn english. Next the roles of the teacher in the classroom was discussed. What I learned from this is that it is important that as a teacher you don't always adopt the same role within a classroom. It is necessary for the teacher to adapt the way he/she fulfils certain roles to meet the needs of the class. For example it probably won't be a good idea to be a fairly distant facilitator in a class that requires a high degree of classroom management. It also gave me food for thought in planning out how I could use differing teacher roles in classes. As I am going to be teaching young learners
