In reflecting on this course, I have come to the realization that teaching english involves different elements for full effect. tefl serves as a very important tool to the teaching and learning process as it provide the foundation on which teaching english education to non-native learners ought to be delivered and received.
The basis of the course was focused on knowledge and strategies that can be utilized in assisting non-english speakers in gaining knowledge of the language. Hence, in completing the course, Grammar, teaching strategies, activities suitable for different level learners, devising quality lesson plans, teaching aids, equipment and materials were examined, as well as, evaluating and testing techniques. In completing these Units, I was able to reinforce certain key areas of teaching and learn new information and correct misconceptions I had. These units are really helpful in giving the teacher (me) an overall picture of what works well in the classroom and how all the elements come together to form a productive classroom.
Whist completing this course, I was in the classroom and hence it had provided a platform for my lessons. I was able to manipulate the concepts and see the results of the methodologies applied. This course really does help experienced teachers to catch up on the growing trends in the classroom and new teachers to be aware of the expectations and the knowledge that should be applied in the classroom. The design of the course help learners to pace themselves in completing the units without feeling bombarded with too many of any similar topics at any one time. In addition, the course is so flexible that the material covered could be applied in the learning of any language even to native speakers. It was not rigid to its purpose. As well, the guidance provided throughout the course was immaculate and hence, the learners would feel completely at home in doing this course without feeling burdensome.
In the end, I feel completely satisfied in undertaking this course. The units were relevant to the classroom and assisted me in gaining a wealth of knowledge especially with the grammar structures, learning activities and lesson planning. I was able to better manipulate the information in the classroom and hence I would recommend persons to undertake this course whether the person is teaching non-native learners or not. In addition, in completing this course I was further able to see the qualities of a good/intentional teacher and I was forced to examine myself and apply those qualities that were missing.
