This course has made me not clueless about what will be expected of me in my new job. Making lesson plans, refreshing grammar, learning teaching theories have given me confidence, but also shown me that there is more to tefl than I had imagined and there will be much more in practice.
As a native english speaker, it is difficult to identify problems students might have. To me, it just sounds right… I never thought about it. This course has given me insight into what it may be like for students to learn english. Brushing up my grammar was useful not only to remind me of different tenses etc… but also to help me understand how challenging it can be to articulate how a tense is formed and how it is used. The lesson on pronunciation was very useful- I'd never realized the mechanisms used to make sounds and how to methodically present them. Making lesson plans have helped me understand how to approach teaching and will hopefully make me more comfortable in the classroom. When I start my job in korea, I will have an idea of how to engage my students, get them talking and learning.
When I started this course, I had very little understanding of teaching english as a foreign language. Many concepts and tools I have learned in this course are things that I never would have thought of without it.
