Therefore, there is a high demand for people with english language skills. For this reason, many parents of children and adults are finding it necessary to learn english, in order to break into the global market. So, which method is better; online or onsite? Online tefl courses supply potential teachers the opportunity to improve their teaching ability within a limited budget. They are designed to offer a flexible and cost-effective method of gaining a professional qualification. The online courses are relatively cheaper than those on site. It is not just even the course that you have to pay for, you would also save money and time by not having to find accommodation or travel to a College every day. The time restraints and the fact that you can do them anywhere, allows anyone to complete them; even if they are in a full time job. There is no requirement to go to classes, so more mature students don't need to feel out of place inside a classroom. This means that the learning program can be adjusted to at any speed that makes the student feel comfortable. You can work at your own pace, giving you time to read and absorb the materials and your speed. The only true disadvantage that online courses have is that they lack the direct teaching practice that can be done on site. Online learners would miss out on sample classes and relevant issues that may arise that they might not have thought would arise in the classroom. There is an option to do the online course with a tutor; which is, in my opinion, a better option, because you get feedback and guidance on your work. Learners without tutors may find the course more difficult as they would have to do all the work on their own. Whereas, doing the course with constant feedback gives you praise and boost your confidence. I know that when I choose to do the online course myself, the thought of a test at the end worried me, so with a tutor you have a bit more of a personal touch and the work doesn't seem as hard to do. When it comes to learning onsite the benefits are very different. In most onsite courses there are opportunities to teach actual students. You can also see a variety of ways to teach students with different levels. In addition, the concentrated learning experience can help you to obtain a qualification, whilst being immersed in an intensive learning environment for a certain period. When you do this all that you can think of at the time is teaching. You do not get distracted by work, family or anything else that would still be happening in your life if you were studying online. The onsite course is more practical and more hands on than an online course. There is generally more theory based study from online courses, because it is distance learning and it has no teaching examples in a classroom environment. Therefore, onsite learning gives you practical and theoretical methods of learning how to teach. The only drawback, however, is that these benefits have a higher cost in both time and money. In conclusion, both courses supply you with the basic theoretical and practical knowledge that you would need in order to become an excellent tefl instructor. The main difference, I feel, is that online courses are designed for busier people, who may not be able to travel away from home for a certain length of time and commit to a full time onsite course. There is no 'best' way to learn how to be a teacher. I think that it all depends on your personal needs, goals and your flexibility. Both courses allow you to study similar topics and become a certified teacher at the end of the course, so which one is better? You choose! I call it a tie!
