Despite being a native speaker of the
english language, I never had the opportunity to study
english grammar until
applying myself to the
tesol program. I feel that this experience of learning how to teach language has instilled in me a greater appreciation for the mechanics and composition of the
english language. I feel that the way this course was set up not only taught me how to teach
english, but also gave me invaluable insight into what it means to be a good
teacher, regardless of the subject that is being taught. I feel that I can
apply much of what I learned about being a good
teacher in this course to other areas of my life. Examples of this would be how to be a good communicator, being sensitive to cultural differences, how to read one's environment, being aware of multiple learning and personality styles, etc. The reason that I applied to this course was to enable extended future travels to
brazil. I hope to live and work there, learning Portuguese and
brazilian culture, while at the same time having the option of supporting myself by means of sharing my knowledge of
english and North American culture. Being of multicultural and multilingual upbringing, I appreciated
tesol's training on inter-cultural communication. I hope to
apply what I learned in this program by attaining my dream of living/studying/teaching – especially
children – in
brazil, and perhaps other countries as well.
