This course has been very useful for me and as a current english conversation teacher in japan doing this course has improved my skills as a teacher and has also opened my eyes to topics and parts of teaching english that I have never thought about before. In my experience I have been asked exact particular questions that I could not have answered without studying this course. This course is ideal for every conversation teacher and covers points that you will be faced with in class and in the work place. The grammar units teach you things you didn't know and also help reinforce existing points that will make you more confident to deal with in future classes. The different lesson plan theories and techniques I am already adapting to my current classes and they have improved time, structure and most importantly I have been getting good feed back from students. With a lot more ideas for games and how to effectively use receptive and productive materials, class arranging, the cd lesson which was memorable, the awareness of phonology and much more I already feel much more confident and ready to teach with a greater satisfaction that I am giving back more than I am earning. Another point worth mentioning is that some of the units highlight the student and teacher relationship and how to deal with particular situations in the class.
Overall this course has been a great help to my line of work now. I have learned a lot and will continue to use and refer back to the units so whenever I need to check a grammar point or whenever I need to re-adapt my lesson plans or use particular activities this course will be of great help. I originally took this course because many schools and colleges are requesting that english conversation teachers/instructors have tefl or tesol. I have been applying but have been refused because I don't have tefl or tesol. In the future when I apply for a different position within japan or overseas I hope that it will help me get the job that I want but more importantly I hope to be a much more effective english conversation teacher for my students.
