Classroom management deals with role flexibility, organizing and maintaining discipline. The student’s confidence and learning effectiveness will depend on the teacher’s classroom management skills. The teacher must know when it is time to be firm or when to leave students alone. The level of firmness depends on the age of the students. Overall, it is best to keep a controlled environment at the beginning then tail it off with a relaxed environment especially with kids or younger learners.

Classroom management is the skill of organizing and managing the class, having a friendly, relaxed manner, and maintaining discipline. The main aim of any lesson/class is for the teacher to be able to convey the information in such a manner that the students can absorb the information as quickly and as effectively as possible. When it comes to teaching a new language, what needs to be taken into consideration is that the students need to be kept motivated, exposed to the language, and allowed to use it themselves. The most effective method on which this whole course is based, and in which all these factors come into play is the Engage, Study, Activate (‘ESA’) technique. However, what holds even more importance than the method itself and what can influence the students’ motivation positively or negatively is the teacher’s attitude and... [Read more]

What is classroom management? Classroom management refers to all kinds of activities and measures taken by teachers in order to make effective use of their time, to create a good learning environment and to reduce bad behavior. Teacher self-analysis in the classroom is just as important as a critical self-reflection upon the unfolding of our lives. To know whether or not our students are getting the most out of our course, the first step must be to critically assess whether or not we are upholding our values and/or philosophical approaches to teaching. Without remaining mindful of our intentions for and approaches to teaching, it may be easy to lose sight of one’s long term goals and could result in disorganization, a loss in student interest, and/or a poor student to teacher relationship. But being critical of the self is difficult due to our loyalties and beliefs that frame our perception. So how is the eye able to see the eye?

When working with a large group, it is important to maintain class management to ensure all students can learn the material. A class can easily become off task due to a lack of dominance within a teacher. I had the opportunity to manage a group of six and seven-year-old students in the past and I am aware that it can be rather difficult to keep children on task. Throughout my internship, I was able to see what skills worked and what needed improvement. After reading unit 5, from the online course, I was able to connect concepts and thoughts I had from managing my class. Now that I am aware of new concepts it is easier to see how teachers can manage a classroom in a friendly but orderly manner.
