Things I wish I'd known before starting the course (78): Getting a teaching job outside of your home country is not as easy as you think. In my own experience, I encountered a lot of trials and frustrations. One example is one of my recent applications in one of the prestigious companies here in japan. I was interviewed and was able to submit all my pertinent documents (e.g. resume, college diploma, training certificates, etc.). I thought I have done my best (not knowing what I did was not good enough). I even thought that answering the most difficult questions during the interview will qualify me. I sent a well-crafted thank-you email to be able for them to remember me during the hiring process. I haven't received any response from them for days. I felt so anxious so I decided to make a follow up call but to my surprise, the hiring manager told me that they were not able to consider my application. I was shocked then, but I know that the company must have considered some reasons of not hiring me. A few hours later, I received an email from the company saying that I lack teaching techniques during the teaching demonstration session and I was advised to enroll online for a tefl certification course. Without any hesitation, I looked for an institution online, and there I found ITTT. I immediately enrolled without even thinking the consequences. All I had in mind is to finish the course and get a certificate. I began my studies with ITTT and enjoyed the benefits of it. But even though I felt I have done well on some of my worksheets basing on my tutor's evaluation (Thanks a lot, Sir Peter!), I still have these things I wish I'd known before starting the course: I wish I had some research about an online course. But if I hadn't enroll in ITTT, I would still have remained ignorant about it. At first, I thought I'd be interacting with my teacher live on the internet. But instead, I had to be more focused, careful and creative to be able to put emphasis in my writings. I wish I had known about being so patient. To be honest, I am impatient at times and it took me a very long time to complete every single worksheet. But with all the positive comments I received from my online tutor, I slowly gained self-confidence and developed patience and perseverance. Luckily, I was able to succeed. I wish I'd known how to handle and use time wisely. Sometimes some questions on the worksheets were seemingly very easy to answer. But to my surprise, it took me hours reflecting even on a very ‘easy' question. Now I realized that I might have all the time in the world but if I don't use it wisely, It will be impossible for me to meet my goals.
