From this course I have gained an understanding of basic english grammar and pronunciation, in addition to how to break it down and teach it to students. I have also practiced making effective lesson plans for a variety of situations and thought long and hard on how to attack different class groups with their own sets of problems utilizing whatever materials are available to me. I have read about (and brainstormed) new games and activities to use in class and useful ways to incorporate them into the system.
I have already begun to apply these things to my private tutoring sessions with a few students. In addition, I’ve often brought up the things I’ve learned with coworkers, trying to fit more of this style of teaching into the ever-rigid japanese education system. In the future I would like to continue passing on this knowledge to the people who control my english classes and trying to incorporate it into the few situations that I do control.
