This course has introduced me not only to teaching english, but also to the field of education, an area that I have recently begun to find very interesting. It seems to me that education is a universal constant: we are all learning, all of the time. Studying how we learn english, by means of studying how to teach english, has been an eye-opening experience for me, as it has provided a springboard into this complex area of humanity.
How do different people learn differently, and why? How can I adapt myself and my methods to suit a variety of different people simultaneously? The answers may not be found in this course, but for me this course has provided me with something even more valuable: a reason to care about the questions.
I plan on putting what I've learned into action by starting to teach english in schools and day-care centers around my village in rural thailand. The teaching will be low-key, but it will provide me with experience and plenty of opportunities to practice. After leaving my village, I plan on putting my newfound knowledge and newly acquired skills to work in Bangkok as an english teacher/tutor.
